Signature stamps
lesson plan
A signature stamp is made by creating a mark that is unique to you, carving that mark into clay and bisque firing it. This creates a consistent stamp that you can use to mark all your pieces.
1. sketch
Sketch and come up with at least 5 final designs.
Be creative! Your letters don't have to be in order, and don't just write them in your normal handwriting.
- Must include first and last initial.
- Middle initial is optional.
- Draw it exactly the way you want it on your stamp.

2. transfer
Transfer your final design.
- Use a water based marker and draw over your design.
- Quickly press the clay on the design, the marker will transfer to the clay and your design will be backward.
- Use the needle tool to lightly draw over the marker.
3. carve
When leather hard, begin to carve out the design using the needle and modeling tools.
- Do this carefully!! It is easy to remove clay, it's not easy putting clay back on.
- Carve deep enough that the design will show when pressed into clay.
- Use a damp brush to clean up the edges and burrs when finished.
4. use
Bisque fire, then it's ready to use!
